On May 1, 2014, Mizzou Alternative Breaks and MU Extension started a partnership to encourage Mizzou students to serve throughout the state of Missouri.
Weekend service trips give students an opportunity to learn more about Missouri, serve communities throughout the state and provide just another example of why we are the University for Missouri. As part of the weekend program, Mizzou students serve throughout the state with the local support of MU Extension’s Community Engagement Specialist. Each fall and spring, hundreds of Mizzou students participate in the weekend program, spending their weekend serving with MU Extension projects and local community partners.
MAB has a long history of sending passionate, service-minded students across the United States and abroad to serve, and MU Extension has an even longer history of providing Missourians with services that they need. This partnership pairs Mizzou Alternative Break students who have a passion for service with MU Extension field staff across the state who can help direct that passion. This allows MU students to get firsthand experience in their majors while enhancing MU Extension’s capacity to serve the community. Past weekend trips have served with education, health, environmental, youth empowerment, and other community initiatives.
